Broad Town owns its own Speed Indicator Device (SID) which it bought in 2020. In partnership with Wiltshire Council CATG (Community Area Transport Group) a number of sites were agreed and funds provided by the CATG to extend the poles which hold the speed limit repeater signs, thereby allowing the SID to be moved from one site to another within the village.

Wiltshire Highways guidance on SIDs can be found in Appendix B of this document

Sites currently agreed:  SID Locations

The SID monitors the speed of oncoming traffic and if the vehicle speed exceeds 30mph the sign illuminates to remind the driver of the 30mph limit.

The SID is maintained by the Parish Council and moved to a new location every few weeks, when the battery is also recharged.

The date, time and number of vehicles passing is recorded within the SID and these details are downloaded each time the SID is moved and the statistics analysed and reported below.
