Outlaw Triathlon Bowood – Sunday 4 September 2022

Outlaw Triathlon Bowood – Sunday 4 September 2022

On Sunday 4 September OSB Events will be holding a triathlon event at the Bowood Estate.  The event will see 600 competitors taking up the challenge of a 1.2 mile swim, followed by a 56 mile cycle, finishing with a 13.1 mile run.

The cyclists will travel the B4041, Broad Town Road downhill.   However according to the organisers:  “We have been working closely with the County Council Highways department for the past 18 months to ensure that we get a balance between providing a safe route for the athletes, and making sure that the impact on other road users is kept to a minimum”, and Broad Town Parish Council has had assurances that there will be safety measures in place, marshalls and firm emphasis on the rules for riders, with disqualification for competitors breaking them.

The cycle section is a single lap, anti-clockwise route; the route follows the A342 through Devizes and all the way to Rushall where the cyclists will turn left onto Pewsey Road, then the cyclists turn left at the Woodbridge Inn island. The route then follows Wilsford Road and The Sands until it turns left following the main street through Lockeridge to the A4 at Fyfield where they again turn left. The cyclists stay on the A4 until the Beckhampton roundabout where the cyclists will turn right towards Avebury and join the A4361 then they turn left at Summers Road & cycle through Broad Hinton.  The cyclists will stay on the B4041, Broad Town Road almost to Wooton Fields Farm where they will turn left and follow Withy Bed past Bushton before turning right at the T junction towards the A3102. Turning left onto the A3102, which they follow around High Penn and Calne until they turn right at the roundabout onto Chilvester Hill. They then follow New Road to the bottom of the hill before turning left onto Old Derry Hill, A342 turning back into the Bowood Estate at the Woodlands Garden Entrance.

Jubilee Beacon

The beacon will be lit at 9.45pm on Thursday 2nd June on the escarpment to the right of Broad Town Hill as you look up at it. The photo here has a blue dot showing the location, and you can see the Village Hall at the bottom left of the photo to help locate things.
The intention is that it will be viewed from the village (rather than encouraging residents to gather nearby given that it will be dark and the hill is steep).

Spring Clean the Village ready for the Queen’s Jubilee. Meet at the Village Hall at 10.00am to help litter pick and tidy public areas. Litter picking equipment provided.

Grab a Spade and a Bucket and help remove the weeds growing up on the edge of the pavement along Broad Town Road. Please wear a Hi-Viz and stay safe.

Wandering around the local market, these took my eye, with the Royal Wedding coming up, thought they were apt.

Also, a team are hoping to decorate the Village Hall and the village shelter on the same day from 10am and would welcome any volunteers to join in!
