Christmas and New Year waste collection and opening times

Waste collections:

Waste and recycling collections will change over the Christmas period, with waste collection crews not working on Thursday 25 December, Friday 26 December and Thursday 1 January 2026.

There will be no collections after Christmas Eve (Wednesday 24 December) until Monday 29 December, revised collection dates will be in place to ensure services continue smoothly throughout the festive season. Residents are encouraged to check the updated online collection calendar, which now reflects their revised collection dates. This will help avoid missed collections and ensure waste is presented on the correct day.

People can check their waste and recycling collection days online at www.wiltshire.gov.uk/rubbish-and-recycling.

Garden waste collections:

Garden waste collections will cease for two weeks over Christmas; residents are advised to check their online collection calendar to see when their service resumes.

Residents can check their online collection calendar which is updated to reflect all collections over the festive period at www.wiltshire.gov.uk/rubbish-and-recycling.

Christmas tree collections:

Residents who subscribe to garden waste collections can place a real Christmas tree next to their garden waste bin in January. The tree must be positioned beside the bin so the collection crew can easily identify the property. Trees over 5ft should be cut into manageable pieces and placed in the garden waste container or the crew may not be able to collect. Alternatively, residents can sign up to have their real Christmas tree collected by a local charity for a donation. Residents should check to see if the charity collects in your area before registering.

More information on what to do with Christmas waste can be found at www.wiltshire.gov.uk/Christmas-waste-donations-and-collections.

Household Recycling Centres:

Household Recycling Centres will be closed from 1pm on Wednesday 24 December and all-day Christmas Day (Thursday 25 December), Boxing Day (Friday 26 December) and New Year’s Day (Thursday 1 January).  All other days will operate under normal opening hours on their specified opening days, which can be found at www.wiltshire.gov.uk/household-recycling-centre-locations
